Sometimes I paint on small block sheets before moving to large formats. I also address more intimate themes; it’s as if the small format makes me feel more confident in being able to express something intimate.
Splashing on the sheets, making mistakes, trying and seeing what my hand does before the conscious mind reaches us is a good exercise of self-analysis, concentration, and preparation for work. Considering these smaller paintings are only sketches helps me to keep them fresh at the moment of execution.
They are works of art like the others, and the dimension does not make them inferior … I have made this pact only with myself and for now it seems to be working.
